America's several-decade stride from its lowest financial point amidst the Great Depression to its golden age of the late 1940s to early 1960s were obtained under a model in which FDR produced a system just like this one through New Deal programs. The austerity politics of the late 20th century (REEAAGGGAAAAAN!!!! &co.) removed this functionality and in part contributed to the rising income inequality seen today.
